No words can explain this place...but that doesn't mean I won't try. We drove for 4 hours (Em of course slept), from the north to the south of Jordan making a few stops in Jerash for some of the best preserved Roman "ruins" & Madaba for some mosaics.
In Wadi Rum, we were transferred over to the care of our 4x4 expert, Mohammed. Mohammed, does not look like what you would expect of an expert 4x4 driver; in fact, Mohammed is about 60 years old, no more than a buck 25, and did I mention 60 years old? I was soon put in my place as we drove through the desert nightscape at 100 km/hr with head lights not much brighter than parking lights. Finally, after Em had been thrown throughout the cab in the back seat (no seatbelts) for the last 20 minutes we arrive at our desert camp to be greeted with food and the most delicious tea I have ever had. I have slept under the stars before and been in remote places, but nothing I have ever seen compares to the stars overhead the warm deserts of Wadi Rum.
there are still old chariot tracks!
