The Crater is in amazing place. it’s 8,000 feet above sea level and totally green all year around. This park is famous black rhinos. There are only about 20 black rhinos left in the wild and almost all of them are here in the Crater. We were lucky enough to see NINE of them – including a baby! It was very special seeing them in the wild.
We also saw two other of the Big Five here – buffalo and elephants. Also, there were wildebeest and zebra (as they migrate together - zebras eat the higher grass and the wildebeest take on the shorter grass), more warthogs, hyenas & jackals, and tons of flamingos in the alkaline lake.
Zebras like to stand next to each other, facing opposite directions so that they can literally watch each other's backs AND use their friend's back as a spot to rest their head. They have a very donkey-like shape...I've seen a zebra before but for some reason that surprised me.
