freedom day

william successfully drove on the wrong side of the road into cape town from the airport and were surprised to see a thick layer of smog. gross. not la, but not what we expected either.  we had our first dinner with petey and maria at belvaderes and it was yummy. after seeing all those elands on the safari in tanzania - i ate one for dinner tonight in cape town. mm mmm!

the next morning we hit the city center and started with the district 6 museum and learned about the ugliness of apartheid.

afterwards we visited the colorful houses of the muslim community, bo-kaap.

 

we then unsuccessfully attempted the frommer's walking tour - so instead headed for the bars.  we had drinks at the mojito club (including petey's very vibrant blue one below) and then attempted to go to other bars but everything was closed for freedom day.  for dinner we went to royale eatery and all had huge burgers and then went upstairs to the waiting room where a local musician played great acoustic guitar & the saw.
