two leopards and a boma

Day 6: Leaving the Seregeti

We were leaving the Serengeti and Jonas was driving very fast. I wondered why, but soon found out - we rocked up to a tree with TWO leopards. Definitely made up for the lack cheetah from the day before. There was a lady leopard napping on a lower branch and a dude leopard tearing apart a gazelle on a higher branch (we could only see a snout and later a hoof). After he was done eating most of his feast, he made his way down a bit and we were able to get a full view of him. The female leopard stirred a bit and he got scared that she’d go for his food - they are solitary animals and normally are not seen in pairs, except in mating season - but even then, they don’t share kill. They fought and roared. Very, very cool.

We were driving out of the Serengeti and Jonas had another feeling - we turned off the main road and sure enough - there was our cheetah. We officially have seen it all! We left the Serengeti very happy troopers.  On the drive out, we saw a ton of vultures eating a wildebeest carcass - disgusting.

We also visited a Maasai boma, village, and it was pretty interesting to see their homes and they way they live - they're pologamists (up to 18 wives), the women make the houses and food, and don't like fruits and vegetables.  They have hard lives.

When we got back to the lodge, we encountered loud Dutchmen again who we “heard” the first night in the Serengeti. They made us not miss Amsterdam. Will wished them a goede morgen at breakfast - we got a couple double-takes and nervous replies back.
